“The majority of those seeking treatment for the pain of temporomandibular disorders are women in their childbearing years. These women also tend to suffer from other pain conditions that predominately affect women, are under researched and poorly understood. If someone has one of these conditions, they’re likely to develop another or more. The TMJ Association joined with other members of the Overlapping Conditions Alliance – the Chronic Fatigue and Immune Dysfunction Syndrome Association of America, the Endometriosis Association and the National Vulvodynia Association in launching the Campaign to End Chronic Pain in Women. The launch took place on Capitol Hill and was just the beginning of our campaign to address the needs of women suffering. We are advocating for cost effective investments in research, education of health care professionals and expanding public awareness of these conditions. We invite you to join us!
